DOÑA FER Grocery Store

Named after my mother, Doña Fer Grocery Store is a humble family-owned grocery store that specializes in Central and South American produce, products, and cuisine. It stands as one of the few sources of an authentic Mexican experience in our city and has even become an essential part of our local Latin American community.

In an effort to be resourceful, many of the projects done for Doña Fer Grocery Store relied on the use of recycled or repurposed materials. This led to the challenge of finding reusable and low-waste solutions to improve the store internally and promote the store’s brand externally.

One of the charms of Doña Fer Grocery Store is their weekend sales of homemade Mexican cuisine. The problem, however, was their lack of a centralized menu. They specifically lacked a menu that was both easily accessible to an older audience and could be reworked in case of any necessary changes. Here we created a menu board that was both simple to adjust and easy to understand. By taking apart a discarded whiteboard easel and turning it into a reworkable menu we found exactly the solution they were looking for.

With their weekend food sales, there was also an additional need for advertising on the street. The solution for this problem came in the form of a repurposed floor stand that had also been discarded. By simply reprinting over the old sign we found a nearly wasteless solution that provided great results and attracted far more customers than we could have without it.

Additionally to creating external branding solutions, one of our biggest objectives was to enhance internal workplace productivity. One of Doña Fer Grocery Store’s main attractions is its daily in-house production of freshly made tortillas. The store’s need for a simple solution to managing its tortilla orders led to this custom-designed stamp. Not only did it simplify order tracking, but the use of recycled scrap paper gave us an almost costless low waste solution.
